EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment: Resilience in a Changing World (FIBE2)

Biography

Passionate about sustainable international development, Fania spends her time researching water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) with a particular emphasis on refugee camps and informal settlements.

Her work focuses on UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #6 [ensuring water and sanitation for all] and, in addition to water and sanitation technologies, Fania has a particular interest in the importance of community-based engagement, initiatives and cooperation in order to achieve viable and accepted WASH solutions.

During her MSc at UCL, Fania's Research Project was titled 'Appropriate Portable Wastewater Management Solutions for Tented Settlements and Refugee Camps: A Case Study of Moria, Greece" and she was supervised by Dr Luiza Campos.

While completing her BEng in Chemical Engineering at UCL, she was President of Engineers Without Borders UCL which had a mission of sustainability at home and abroad. As President, her main task was creating equal opportunities, especially in education, and supporting her fellow committee and society members working on climate action, clean energy, and sustainable innovation.

Fania is currently supervised by Dr. Kristen MacAskill, and her advisor is Professor Richard Fenner.

In her spare time, when she is not talking about the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Fania enjoys being a part of Newnham College's MCR Community, where she is Secretary of the MCR, and rowing + coxing with Newnham College Boat Club, where she is a Lower Boats' Captain.
