EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment: Resilience in a Changing World (FIBE2)

The FIBE2 CDT 2021 Summer Industry Partner day was a huge success and well attended by partners from industry, academics and students alike. The event started with a welcome from Dr Ioannis Brilakis, contact for Industry partners followed by updates from the FIBE2 academics and staff on the FIBE2 programme. Cohort 1 PhD students then gave short presentations on their projects  followed by breakout rooms for each student and their supporting industry partner for more in-depth questions and answers.  The Cohort 2 presentations were shorter presentations providing an insight of things to come in their research.

The following are a couple quotes from Dr Ioannis Brilakis and Phil Proctor, from Highways Engand regarding the event.

Despite the challenge of running an engagement event virtually, the interaction between industry partners and PhD students was vibrant and led to calls for additional interaction time in future events
                                    - Dr Ioannis Brilakis, contact for Industry partners at FIBE2 CDT

"I was delighted to join the “Summer Industry Partner Day” today and see the progress of all the FIBE2 students.  We are expanding our research, development and technology projects through PhDs and Post-Doctoral studies with universities and Highways England are currently supporting 5 PhD’s with FIBE2 that are creating the knowledge and insights we need to help shape and deliver our vision for England’s roads.  I would like to thank all the students for their excellent presentations today and I look forward to hearing more on their progress in the future."
                                    - Phil Proctor, Head of Research at Highways England
