EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment: Resilience in a Changing World (FIBE2)

Alice Bennett from Cohort 3, returned from an incredible research trip to New Zealand, hosted by Jannik Haas and Rebecca Peer in the Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG) at the University of Canterbury. The secondment explored how the age and condition of existing infrastructure can influence the pace and rollout of hydrogen technologies — a critical factor in understanding how energy transitions unfold in the real world.

During the secondment, Alice also had the opportunity to present previous work looking at the impact on global hydrogen supply chains and their role in decarbonisation at the 3rd New Zealand Hydrogen Symposium. The presentation was met with enthusiasm and earned a commendation prize — a proud moment and recognition of the impact of her research.

“Outside the lab, the landscapes in New Zealand were nothing short of spectacular. A standout moment was a trip to Aoraki (Mount Cook) with fellow PhD students — the dramatic alpine scenery, staying in a hut, and great company made it a truly unforgettable experience.”    - Alice Bennett
