EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment: Resilience in a Changing World (FIBE2)

Congratulations to Dr Xueying Wang, from Cohort 1! Xueying has the honour of being the first student in FIBE2 CDT to complete the PhD.

Xueying has specific knowledge and skills in a wide range of engineering subjects. She completed her undergraduate studies in Civil and Structural Engineering in 2018 with First Class Honours, before going on to complete Imperial College London’s MSc in General Structural Engineering in 2019. She graduated from the MSc programme with a distinction for her final dissertation and then started her studies as part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment (FIBE2 CDT) programme at University of Cambridge. She has received six scholarships and been on the Dean’s List four times during her studies. Xueying is also a Cambridge Trust Scholar of the University of Cambridge and a Grand Challenge Scholar of the National Academy of Engineering (US).

Xueying's doctoral research in Cambridge focuses on carbon-based material embedded self-sensing cementitious composites as a smart and resilient solution for future infrastructure. She was supervised by Prof. Stuart Haigh and co-supervised by Prof. Abir Al-Tabbaa in collaboration with FIBE2 industry partner National Highways. Xueying’s four years MRes and PhD work in Cambridge has been of an extremely high standard – she has published five peer-reviewed articles in top-ranked journals. She has also published a high-quality conference paper, and one more forthcoming by the end of her PhD. In addition to the impressive achievement in research, Xueying also devoted herself into undergraduate teaching and supervising as a teaching assistant at the Department of Engineering. During her PhD time in FIBE2 CDT, Xueying has taught 8 courses for Division A and Division D in the engineering department covering a wide range of engineering subjects.

Xueying has moved onto her next step in academia by taking on the position as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate at the University of Manchester and Nationwide Engineering Group continuing her research in the field of smart, sustainable and resilient engineering materials.

FIBE2 CDT wishes Xueying every success for her future!
