EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment: Resilience in a Changing World (FIBE2)

A very warm welcome to Cohort 3 who are starting their 4-year MRes + PhD this Michaelmas in the FIBE2 CDT programme. This year's cohort comprises a good mix of  UK and international students including a selection of Cambridge University's very own graduates. The induction week went off to an exciting start with a flurry of activities where Cohort 3 got to know the CDT, staff and academics on the programme, as well as the Engineering department on the Trumpington Street site.

They all gave short presentations, ending with a fun fact on themselves so staff can get to know them better. As part of Induction, they were introduced by the Outreach Officer, Maria Kettle,  to the Community Open day , which is a fun day for families and young children to play fun games and get to know more about STEM subjects. Cohort 3 will lead on the FIBE2 games at the Community Open Day and they had a brain-storming session to come up with games they would like to introduce to the public about Civil Engineering. The open day will be on 19th Mar 2022. So watch this space.

To encourage cohort bonding, they went on a speed-friending session with cohorts 1 and 2. Judging from the hive of activity and excited buzz around the room, one would say the speed-friending session was a huge success. Supported by the CDT, all 3 cohorts in FIBE2 will have an informal meal together so they can get to know each other and strengthen inter-cohort bonds. We are very excited to have Cohort 3 join FIBE2 CDT and we wish them every success in the MRes year as they begin their journey to a PhD.
