EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment: Resilience in a Changing World (FIBE2)

Columbia University visits King's College883x431.jpg

On Friday 17th of January, the FIBE2 CDT hosted 20 students from the Center for Buildings, Infrastructure and Public Spaces (CBIPS) from ivy-leagued Columbia University, New York. We had a morning of academic endeavour where the FIBE2 students gave presentations on their group project, “Resilience of road infrastructure to the effects of water”. A special thank you to Phillip Proctor and Dr Efi Tzoura, who attended on behalf of the project sponsor Highways England.

The 20 Columbia CBIPS Fellows were very impressed by the student presentations, as well as by your department’s facilities and programme.“

                                                              -Associate Professor Frederic Bell

We also had the chance to briefly show our guests some of the wonderful architecture Cambridge has to offer including the old Court at Corpus Christi College and the King’s College Chapel.

Our guests from Columbia University then spent an evening over pizza with FIBE2 Cohort 1 at Newnham College. Many thanks to our Course Administrator Martine Gregory-Jones who organised the event for our guests from New York. FIBE2 CDT Centre and Course Manager Sally Birse says, "We very much hope to keep an active dialogue and exchange with CBIPS in the future."
